The floating gardens, where clever locals have built grassy patches chock-full of colorful and nutritious produces are another standout while touring the villages. Without land to grow crops on, this region’s residents have to build their own man-made plots, which are approximately a meter in depth and supported with bamboo. One of the primary reasons to hop on a boat tour is Inle Lake’s stilt house villages, which are accessible only by boat. The villages situated sporadically throughout this lake are these evidences showing the ability to adapt to the surroundings of the locals. Except for one major difference—villages are completely surrounded by water, with families working, playing, and relaxing together, life here is similar to what you can find anywhere else in the world. All of the houses here are on stilts and swimming or boat is the only way to travel.

After having grown up, Inle Lake’s children will learn how to walk first and then, pilot a boat. As there are no roads here, people have to go by boat to go to work, to visit the market or just meet a friend.
